Review: The SENCO had absolutely no idea how to deal with our child, our child only exhibited extreme behaviour & needs IN school. We spent two years stating the same thing. The school set the narrative that we as parents were to blame! The headteacher categorically denied any signs/traits of autism, they penalised our child when we couldn’t attend Meetings in person. They excluded our child when there were public events, including when an MP visited, they didn’t want a ‘disruptive’ child there. They segregated our child in a room NEXT to their class, then expected our child to settle & not become distressed when they separated from the other children, our child doesn’t understand why they are being punished for behaviour they can’t control. We had two years of the head, the SENCO, an EP, and SENSS denying SEN needs and blamed parenting & social/ emotional needs instead. The head didn’t implement any of the EP suggestions, she excluded within 5days of the report having NEVER suggested or offered any alternative provisions off site, or a managed move. A year 1 child excluded permanently for ‘breaching behaviour policies’ when in fact the child has no control over their behaviour or REACTIONS to being bullied by other children, encouraged to act out by others, manipulated by older children, physically harmed & other children encouraging them to harm others, staff members triggering behaviour by isolating our child, staff restraining our child when they were having panic attacks & leading to our child self harming in the process of panic.

One month following permanent exclusion we received FULL independent diagnosis of our child! We were right all along! Our child has many needs and the school only inflicted trauma and suffering.

Not only has our child been failed and their need’s ignored to for the narrative of the manipulative lying gaslighting head & school staff - other families have had their children’s needs denied. They too were forced to seek independent diagnosis to PROVE their children actually have SEN requirements & the headteacher is allowed by the governors to continue this damaging ignorant agenda. This school doesn’t care for helping children with needs that are disruptive. The staff have absolutely NO IDEA how to deal with or understand multiple SEN issues. The headteacher stated - our child “doesn’t behave like other children with autism/ SEN, therefore that’s not something we will explore further”

No two children with SEN exhibit the exact same behaviours, nor does any child who has multiple needs exhibit textbook behaviours. Therefore no textbook strategies will ever resolve and provide neurotypical behaviours when a child is Neurodiverse!

These practices and this amount of ignorance is damaging, causes trauma, emotional distress and HAS a lasting impact on children. Report Content
