Senvisible Community Guidelines

Senvisible is a moderated forum for parents, guardians and other reviewers, to share experiences about schools, local authorities, leisure destinations, restaurants, in relation to their accommodation and inclusion of a special needs (SEN).

Our policy is to keep intervention to a minimum and to allow users to share their own experiences in reviews and discussions. Our vision is to enable parents of young people with SEN to achieve better outcomes for their families and young people, by connecting stories and people in this searchable forum. Where necessary, we will use our discretion to delete reviews or posts (or ban users) if it seems to us that doing so is in keeping with this aim.

We moderate reviews for compliance with these rules but we also rely on our Users to let us know about any discussion posts that break our rules. Our rules are in place to make sure we keep all Senvisible content as reliable and useful for our community as possible.

If you notice any rules breaks you can report them to us using the report button found on every review overview page.

Guidelines

All users must adhere to the following site guidelines, failure to do so may result in your account being deleted and you may be banned from using the site.

Etiquette and Courtesy

Please consider that everyone in this community is in the same boat but their experiences will vary, please respect their opinions and remember this platform is to enable and support one another. We operate a ‘non-judgement’ ethos. There are people in this group having a tough time and everyone deserves to feel completely safe, accepted & never judged here. Differences of opinion are bound to happen, but please always express your opinions with kindness. We would appreciate it if you could use the same courtesy when posting messages on the discussion board as you would use when speaking to someone face to face. This means:

  • No personal attacks – this means never naming an individual in a review or thread discussion
  • No posts that break the law, including hate speech of any kind
  • No offensive language
  • No trolling, misleading or deliberately inflammatory behaviour
  • No falsified information of reviews
  • No troll hunting
  • No spamming
  • No child blaming

We try to let the conversation flow on our discussion board which means our moderators often have to make difficult decisions based on context, tone and circumstance - please respect their decisions.

Swearwords and offensive language

We understand and expect that there will be a lot of emotion behind some stories to be shared by our users, but we ask users to keep their language clean and avoid swearwords, obscenity, racist, ageist, disablist, homophobic or transphobic language.

Post deletions

We will remove reviews, comments or posts which we consider to contain personal attacks, to break the law and/or to be obscene, racist, sexist, disablist, ageist, homophobic or transphobic, once they are brought to our attention. We will also delete any reviews, comments or posts that we think are just seriously unpleasant (please note that any subsequent reviews, comments or posts repeating the words in the deleted post may be deleted, too).

No Controversial, contentious or irrelevant posts

Please keep topics relevant and avoid issues that are likely to cause conflict or heated debate. The Admin Team will remove such posts or comments at their discretion. Any discussion concerning ABA or CBD Oil will be removed.

Safeguarding

Any posts concerning a child must be respectful of their dignity and privacy. Please do not post videos or photos of children on the discussion board. Please report anything you see which causes you concern.

As we set out in our privacy policy, we do not pass on any of the information you have registered with us, unless you specifically consent to us doing so or we are specifically required to by law. However, on rare occasions where there appears to be a clear need to safeguard the welfare of a child or young person and/or his/her family, it may be necessary to contact relevant authorities about a clearly identifiable User and his/her posts on Senvisible.

Posting links and spamming

We have no problem with people posting the links to other relevant sites/blogs that other users might find useful or interesting. But we will delete anyone's attempts to spam the boards with links, as a way of promoting their own product, campaigns, fundraising, services, survey or e-petitions, politics or religion.

If you'd like to enquire about promoting a product or service on Senvisible, please follow the links to our advertising and partnerships sections of the website. Senvisible are not able to vouch for or endorse individuals running crowdfunding campaigns or anything along those lines.

Trolls and troublemakers

Senvisible is a community for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and special needs with an aim of sharing useful reviews and experiences. Trolls are not welcome in this community and if you suspect someone of being a troll, please report them to the admin team at complaint@senvisible.co.uk. We respectful ask that you do not enter into a troll hunt (accusing them publicly on the discussion board).

Child Shaming or Blaming

Senvisible will delete any comments which shame a child/young person and any repeat offenders will have their account closed. Children with additional needs/ SEN are often carrying extreme levels of distress, anxiety, fear and confusion which may result in aggressive behaviour and meltdowns. It is not usually within the child’s conscious control or in any way their fault. Any posts that are critical about a child, either your own or someone else’s, will be removed.

This includes use of any derogatory terms to describe a child or their behaviour, such as referring to a child as being “abusive”.
