Normanton-on-Soar Primary School
Review
Normanton is a lovely school. They are accommodating to many different needs including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia etc. Class sizes are small creating an environment which is more accessible for children who struggle with large numbers of people and high volume of noise.
School have been very good at providing individualised curriculums for children who need it - this has ensured that my child has been able to stay in mainstream school.
The only negatives that I have experienced are:
- budgets are tight (as with all schools but it feels more noticeable in a small school),
- due to low pupil numbers there are low staff numbers - this means that there is no-one "spare" which causes issues with staff absences, particularly support staff,
- the current SENDCo is only educated on Nottinghamshire SEND support and processes including ECHP applications/reviews etc and applying for Specialist schools. As Normanton is only just in Nottinghamshire with children attending from East Leake, Sutton Bonington (both Notts), Loughborough, Hathern, Shepshed and Kegworth (Leics) there is the potential for children to miss out on support from Leicestershire based services and for families applying for an EHCP or Specialist school place to go without answers or help from the SENDCo as they don't know how those Leicestershire processes work. The SENCo is very thorough with providing written reports and supporting evidence but is unable to advise how to go about applying for an EHCP in Leicestershire or what schools seem appropriate for your child if you are looking in Leicestershire.
